Happy Birthday Celine!!

Happy Birthday to Celine!!!! Sending lots of love and good wishes!! (And isn't Charlie the dog so cuteeee!!!!???)
I had class today. Prac with 5 dogs. And it was raining. Oh joy. And one of the dogs would not get in his cage for me, in front of everyone. Grrr. I'm so tired.

3 days...4 assignments.

I think this is the most time I've spent at home all year! From Friday morning until tonight, I've done nothing but take care of my pets, and work on assignments (and do the laundry and dishes since nobody else bothers!) I'm so tired, but yay...now I just have to get through the Dentist tomorrow, work this week, a cat breeds quiz, and 2 practical assessments...then It'll be Good Friday, Easter break, and 2 weeks to...apply for jobs and catch up on reading. It's Palm Sunday and I still haven't decorated. I contemplated looking for Palm Trees today but ran out of time. My Easter stuff is all up the top of my cupboard and the memories of having to shove it up there just 2 months ago are so vivid, I couldn't bear the the thought of trying to get them down LOL! But back to assignments- dang legislation is painful!!! If the government wants people to obey the law, might I suggest making the law A LOT more easy to read and understand? Seriously!!! And some of these assessment tasks were so frustrating, because they don't apply to every individual's work experience. That's all for now. :)

Yesterday, and today...

Yesterday- Day 5 of work experience. And it's over! I'm relieved I'll have more time now to study and look for jobs in the industry, but also a little sad, it was fun and I learned a lot!!! I'll miss some of the animals I saw the most. :S Anyway, yesterday involved lots of paperwork, cleaning, and the world's craziest beagle. Oh gosh. I had never met a beagle before and I don't want to meet one again! It managed to get it's plastic cone off it's head, and somehow break out of its metal cage...how, nobody knows! Of course he managed to hurt his paw in the process, leaving blood covering the floor and halfway up the walls. He destroyed a bunch of other cages too. Talk about destructive!!! Even the Vets were surprised at how crazy this animal is! He then barked all day, and it took 2 of us 10 minutes to get him back in the cage after a walk. Horrible! I think I now prefer cats...

Today, had class. Lots of listening...some good news for me: when being a Vet Nurse, it is ok if I cry. It's more of a problem if you're NOT emotional and sympathetic. That's a relief because when animals suffer or die, I can't not cry! Last night's episode of RSPCA rescue had me bawling for quite a while after it.
Hmm...then did grocery shopping, and came home. Decided to give Ruby fresh pineapple juice now...she's molting a lot, and has a very sensitive digestive system. Molting can cause fur balls, blockages and constipation in rabbits, which Ruby has been showing early signs of, so I syringe fed the juice to her. When we got to the last few mls I decided to film the cuteness of it, hence the above video. :) She's a really good girl, most wouldn't sit still and accept it that easily :) She made up for it later though, by peeing in the wrong part of the cage again. *Sigh.*

It's a sweet little kitty!!!

These are some photos from in class this morning. No, I didn't get a cat. This precious little guy is one of a litter of four. They are ten days old and orphaned, being hand raised at the college I attend. They think the Mother was probably hit by a car, which is so sad. I actually passed a dead bunny and I think a dog on the side of the road on the way today...it makes me so angry. Don't people know that it is actually the law to stop and help an animal you hit??? *Sigh.* Anyway, the kitties were so cute! They made me feel like my hands were huge, and they can't even stand up yet. Hopefully they'll grow up to be strong and healthy and find good homes. :) <3

Time is going so fast...

Why do I never end up doing assignments when I plan to? It's not even that I don't want to, it just seems there's always something else that needs to be done first! Like watching Up with Mum and Matt last night. :P Or going to the dentist this morning. And sleeping 3 hours after it due to combination of anxiety and local anesthetic. And going to work this afternoon. And blogging, since I haven't been writing much otherwise lately. I just feel...impatient. I don't want to pretend to be nice to people who aren't nice to me. I don't want to argue with people who are being passive aggressive for no reason. I don't want to try to chew when my mouth feels numb and hurts lol. Better go.

Work Experience Day 4...

I'm getting a lot better with cats and dogs. :) There were less today, though. 6 dogs and 4 cats, and more smaller dogs so it was much easier than last week. There was a bunny too!!! I helped bath him...he was so cute! And I was very happy to be in my comfort zone for those 10 minutes! The rest of the day was pretty much cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning! Tonight...I'm supposed to either start assignments or sleep, but I'm going to go to the movies and dinner with the girls again...8 hours of pets at work experience, plus an hour at home= enough for today!!

19 March 2010

Alice in Wonderland...

I went to see Alice in Wonderland 3D tonight, with my Mama. <3 She wanted to see it because she likes Johnny Depp...I was just too tired to do any more of my assignments...(not that I did much of them today since the pets took up all my time, once again.) I always hated that movie when I was a kid, it scared me and confused me. It wasn't so bad this time, but if it has some kind of hidden meaning, I still don't get it! I need to get to bed...work experience again tomorrow! I'm so tired and overwhelmed I just need a few days off...I had work on Wednesday, classes yesterday, and I realized I have things due in less than 2 weeks!!! Where does all the time go?

The Price of Beauty...

In between classes and pets today, I managed to watch Jessica on GMA, the View, and the first episode of the Price of Beauty. I was a little skeptical when this project was announced, but so far so good! I found the episode interesting- touching, yet funny...not too serious or too stupid. I think that if more women bothered to be the kind of role model she's trying to be, the world would be an easier place for females. Why do we do things that can potentially harm us, just to conform to what our society pressures us to be? Why do we fixate so much on outer beauty and care so little about what's inside? It's good that someone in the media is finally asking those questions. I hope it makes a difference. Anyway, watch it! (I didn't like the pig bit, obviously, by the way..) It's online at sweetkisses.net if you can't get it to work on vh1.com

Work Experience Day 3...

So so tired!! Today- less dogs (Beagle, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Corgi...still learning breeds!), Lots of cleaning... watched another spey and a castration- one of the testicles somehow ended up on the floor and the vet and I both managed to step on it. Pretty funny but gross. They look so squishy and bouncy but are actually quite firm under your shoe.. Folded theatre linen, put away a delivery, etc. Tomorrow I have classes again and a Doctors appointment. Yesterday, my "day off" was spent cooking, grocery shopping, dealing with moulting pets (again!), washing the car, etc. So tired!!!

13 March 2010

Work Experience Day 2.

Todays work experience didn't include surgery, since it's Saturday. It was a lot more cleaning which is fine, and I spent the whole day in the boarding areas. Which means I got a lot more experience with dogs and cats than I've ever had before and I didn't have to see anything die. There were about 15-20 dogs and maybe 5 cats. I had to feed them, pick some up, walk them etc. Interesting, since I've never owned anything bigger than a bunny I can simply pick up whenever necessary. A huge Labrador pretty much took me flying when I walked him, but he was really obedient when I told him to sit and get back in the cage. A little Chihuahua type thing, so cute, didn't want to walk, wanted to be carried haha. There were Cattle dogs, Rottweilers, Malteses, Dachshunds, all kinds. I'm still trying desperately to learn all the names before my test on Tuesday. The cats were a lot calmer, and most were very sweet. I'm so tired now, but spending some time with Missy before bed, and I'll have to leave painting my toenails until tomorrow! :)

12 March 2010

Busy busy...

But blogging helps me keep track of what I did when a week later all the days seem like a blur!! Watched Jess on Letterman. Went to an agricultural show to take observations for an assignment. Picked up Opi's prescription from Doctors, didn't get vaccination or test because nobody there seems to know what's going on (silent temporary 'yay' at no needle.) Cleaned cages- again- molting season, agggh!!! Now getting ready to go out tonight to see "Dear John" with the girls. BTW, donkey was from the show today.

11 March 2010

It's a sponge...

We learned to do stitches today in class. Now just pretend the sponge is a dog, ok? It was kinda hard, sewing certainly was never my strong point. :P
We also did plaster casts, which kind of reminded me of pottery, but even messier.
Then I came home and went on another dog seeking walk with Mum. Found a "Moodle" this time. :) I went down the slippery slide in the park too. We only grow old when we stop playing. ;)
Life has changed so much.

09 March 2010

Blogging and Work Experience.

It annoys me that my recent entries have not been all neat and with pretty pictures. Oh well it's 11pm and I'm SO TIRED!! Here's an update.
Saturday- Went out to Pancakes for Louise's Birthday. My 8th grade Food Tech partner is 23! Ahh we're all getting so old...
Sunday- Did a lot of errands.
Monday- Work experience. So much to take in!!! A lot of cleaning. I gave a dog an injection, watched a cat spey, a dog ultrasound, unfortunately saw 3 things die, one due to a bad owner, and by the end of it was so completely overwhelmed I haven't had the energy to write about it yet.
Tuesday/Today- Had to get up for class. Discovered that it's hard to take notes while holding a Guinea Pig that just wants to chew your hair. Class went longer than expected and I have A LOT of dog breed studying to do!! Should really get moving with assignments too. But I came home and did chores and cleaning tonight- our vacuum is finally back! I'm so happy haha.
And tomorrow is Wednesday and I have work.

What would I do without my babies?

Day off today. Well, not really "off." There's always something to do!
This morning it was hairdressers, then to the Doctors to get rabies Vaccine. Still need 2 more vaccinations after this one. Animal Studies is turning me into a pin cushion! At least this one didn't hurt too bad.
I bought some new perches for Belle and Valentine, and I disinfected EVERYTHING she ever touches, and threw out anything she could possibly be allergic to. Because despite 3 courses of antibiotics, the trip to the specialist vet, and hundreds of dollars of tests, more supplements and more medication....she has still been vomiting. I'm so frustrated, I just have no idea what could possibly be causing this.
Then Pete, Ruby and I went to the vet for their calicivirus vaccinations. They were both really well behaved this time, despite their terror at my driving down long, windy, pothole filled roads in the pouring rain!
Next I have to think about assignments and do some more reading...that'll be this weekend, plus I have a few other things on. Was I ever this busy before? (I'm sure I was, but you know what I mean...)

04 March 2010

Prac classes today...

I am so tired!!! We had our first prac classes today! Cute doggies everywhere! (Even if some did throw up and pee, inevitably.) I am really not good at identifying surgical instruments yet or putting on the gloves. I should probably start my assignments soon. But at least I found out that I don't have to do 2 of my 5 classes because I covered so much similar content in the Events Diploma I did. :)

On another note, just watched Jess on Oprah. I'm sort of struggling to find words haha. I think it's great that she's turning her own negative experience into something that can be a positive lesson for others. She really seems to have a lot of common sense about it all...so many celebrities don't and that's just sad. Proud to be her fan, after more than 10 years. :)

Celine: Through the Eyes of the World - Widget

Celine: Through the Eyes of the World - Widget: "Celine Dion, the international superstar and best-selling female artist of all time, has toured around the world and back again, and now, Sony Pictures Releasing's special programming division, The Hot Ticket, will let audiences follow her everywhere."

Just had to post this. I think some countries might still have it in cinemas. :) Meanwhile I'm run off my feet with work, classes, pets, and work experience starting next week. I'm trying to prevent a cold using apple cider vinegar which is so so gross, but let's pray it works! I have no time to get sick. I totally forgot what I was going to type next. Better finish up and try to get some sleep! oxoxo
