French...

I've been trying to learn French for....almost 7 years. Since I became a Celine fan. Until recently, I haven't been getting far, mainly because while I have the information I just don't have the time to study it! So while I have a little more time at the moment, I'm making myself work on it whenever possible. And I'm hoping that by the time Celine does her next French interview, I'll be able to understand at least some of it!!!! While I'm irritated by the fact that objects have genders (My table is a boy? The car is a girl? Whyyyy? And if I forget, it's not like I can just look under and check!) And the fact that there are a million different words for words like "have" depending on whether you have it, someone else has it, a whole bunch of people have it, or someone you respect has it....ughhh! How will I ever remember that!? Plus, I can't speak in a French accent at all. Seriously, it comes out Indian-sounding! But I am determined lol. One thing I love though is French song lyrics- they're so much more deep, poetic, beautiful and romantic than English songs! Here are some lines that really stood out to me in my translating experiences:

"Apprends-moi l'art du sacrifice, qu'on est plus vivant quand on meurt d'amour."
"Teach me the art of sacrifice, that one is more alive when one dies of love."

"Empêche-moi, de préférer la nuit au jour, de dire 'Je T'aime' sans 'toujours.'
"Prevent me, from prefering the night to the day, from saying 'I love you' without 'forever'."

"Donne-moi, ce que j'ai perdu un jour, dans ces routes et ces détours, a chercher le chemin, de te mains, de te mains. Retiens-moi."
"Give me, this that I have lost a day, in these roads and these detours, to search the way, of your hands, of your hands. Hold me back."
